[0 YoE, Mathematics Tutor, Data Analyst/Actuary/Underwriter, USA]
I am in my final year of college, where I will finish in Fall 2026, and I am an Applied Mathematics major. I have applied to places with this resume, but I have been told that my resume is not very strong. I was advised by someone at the career services center to use AI to help me write my resume, but I am not sure if that is good advice or not.
It has been hard for me to decide what I want to do with my degree, and I feel like my ultimate goal is become an actuary after college. I am currently studying for Exam P. Unfortunately, I did not realize that I wanted to do this until quite late into my time in college, so I feel like I am behind those who have already taken exams and have actuarial internships. I am also told that actuary companies normally wrap up hiring interns around October of the previous year, so I think it might not be possible for me to get an actuary internship for the summer of 2026.
If I cannot get an actuary internship, I feel like the next best thing is for me to get an internship that is related to the field of actuaries. So, I would like to try to get some sort of data analyst or underwriting internship if I cannot get an actuary internship.
I have been applying to the roles that I mentioned above, but I seem to get rejected from everything I apply to. I know the market is also not amazing right now, but I also see posts about other people landing internships, so I know it's not impossible. That makes me think that I must be doing something wrong, so if you have any advice for me, please let me know.
Also, I do have a separate resume I use for the actuary internships that looks exactly like this one, except that at the top, the first section is the exam section, where I put that I am sitting for Exam P.
