Educate me: forged vs bar stock

Forgive my ignorance with regards to terminology. I am NOT a bladesmith!

I've been seeing photos of amazing creations from this sub and even reached out to a smith who I hope to purchase from one day.

My question is, what are the real differences between a forged blade and one created by removing material from a "blank"? I understand that a forged blade would be stronger? But functionally for the average person... Will I notice a difference?
