No one cares
Pretty disappointed with everything right now. My professor died Sunday night, they told us Monday morning & his class continued Tuesday. There was no moment of silence, no grief counselors offered to us on campus - we had to show up to class (the same class room even) and talk about citations … like dude fuck citations fuck everything. No one gives a shit about you, if you died tomorrow they would replace you and not shed a public tear. This professor worked at our school for 30 years he helped get our writing program to top 5 in the nation. And he dies. And it’s like business as usual? On top of that, he was a lovely human who cared deeply about his students and teaching - he was beloved and made class a joy to be In (ps I hate legal writing and yet I looked forward to his class). Just reminds me how dehumanizing this profession is - not just about parties in a case but also ourselves like we’re all just unimportant & everyone’s afraid to show emotion. None of my friends reached out to ask how I was doing. Reminds me of the woman who had a heart attack during the ny bar and they didn’t cancel it and took them 10 min to call 911 like you don’t matter at all. Don’t take anything too seriously because at the end of the day, this profession will chew you up and shit you out.
