The Girl And Her Blue Bird
Once there lived a quiet girl, with a heart as endless as the sky.
She wandered the woods in the silver dark, while the midnight moon watched from high.
Beneath a bush she found him there, a bird of a twilight hue.
His feathers gleamed like fallen sky, but his delicate wings were broken, too.
Her tender heart could not walk past, so she gathered him soft in her gentle hold.
She carried him home through the whispering night, to keep him safe from the dark and cold.
She fed him seeds, she warmed his wings, and spoke to him in a gentle tone.
She filled the quiet with tender care, so the little bird wouldn’t feel alone.
And slowly, softly, somewhere between the healing days and the hopeful spring,
the quiet girl fell deep in love, with the little bird and his broken wing.
She loved him fierce as a summer fire, yet light as petals upon the breeze.
She held him close, but never too tight, to give him comfort, to give him ease
But when the morning sun was warm, the bird began to sigh.
“My wings are strong, the world is wide, I think it's time to fly.".
Her heart cracked like the winter ice, yet love made one thing clear:
A cage can never hold the sky, no matter who is dear.
So gathering courage in trembling hands, she walked him back where the wild trees grew.
To the very place their story began, beneath the hush of the morning dew.
She held him up in her open palms, and whispered words both brave and true:
“Fly away, my Blue. Go see the world. And let the wind sing its songs for you."
Then slowly, she opened her hands.
The bird delayed for a single breath, to look at the girl with the gentle mind.
He knew her heart was the safest nest, that a roaming spirit could ever find.
With a grateful gaze, he took the air, a streak of blue in the golden light.
He soared away through the endless sky, and vanished into the morning bright.
The days and months and years passed by, the two remained apart.
But her blue bird remained forever-
safely tucked away in her heart
