Invalid IP address

I have an older GATEWAY PC (PC1) that I am trying to set up. Running Windows 10, no wifi. I connected it by Ethernet to a DELL PC (PC2), also running Windows 10 that has WIFI internet access. I did a factory reset on PC1, then connected the Ethernet to PC2 and started updating. (Both PCs have been in storage for about 18 months).

Sometime overnight while they were updating I lost internet to PC1, and I can't seem to figure out why. PC1 has an invalid (default) IP address and I can't get it to update no matter what I do. The connection is there (I get various weather updates and news blurbs), but nothing seems to resolve the issue.

What I have done:

  1. Reset network adapters (ethernet) on both PCs

  2. Reset network adapter (wifi) on PC2

  3. Made sure PC2 allows networking in the WIFI adapter

  4. Made sure Network adapters on both PCs are set to share

  5. Using the Command prompt (admin) I tried resetting the IP address on PC1....ipconfig /renew hangs every time

  6. Flushed from the Command prompt (ipconfig /flushdns) on PC1

  7. Rolled back the last update to install on PC1

Additional notes.....both PCs show they are sending but not receiving....troublshooters report everything ok on PC2, and a bad IP address o PC1...and that is it.

Any help would be appreciated.
