Should I move on
My bf and I have been dating for over 3 years now. And I am stuck. He doesn't like that I drink, his uncle was an alcoholic so he doesn't like being around alcohol. He drinks, just not often. Understanding that, I would still drink but I would try to keep alcohol out of the apartment. Before we started dating, I believe. We argued about how I shouldn't drink anymore. I told him, I don't smoke or do drugs so why can't I have this one outlet as I approach 30. I told him he had no place telling me what I should or should not consume. He disagreed until he spoke with his friend. 3 years pass, I probably go out drinking once every two weeks. Less most months, and I drink beer/wine over hard liquor. Every time I drink an argument happens. He will find things I haven't that I said I would do and bring it up. For example, I have a bad habit of using his desk and leaving it a mess. Or he's been the one to always wash the dishes. So I made a chore schedule and had him sign everytime I completed my day. I started cooking more and going grocery shopping alone. Thinking maybe if I help more he will "allow" me to drink. That's not the case. Even if I drink once a week or once every two weeks he has a problem with it. And I am not changing anymore. He doesn't like when I sing karaoke at home. So I only sing when he is away. I can be in a different room across the apartment, and he will still come and say something. I will sing when I clean and he has to say something. I don't want to start a family with someone who doesn't approve of singing while deep cleaning. I am just tired, I feel like I wasted the last years of my 20s with someone who doesn't want me happy. Maybe I am overreacting, but I am exhausted. Who wants to ask permission to drink in their late 20s? Who wants to clean alone? So they can enjoy singing along to their music? I am tired.
