Yellow fans, did you feel like you missed out in any way? Particularly for starter options?
So to be clear, I get that Yellow has the following Pikachu and the Jesse and James stuff as well as a few other minor upgrades/changes that are cool in their own right, so no hate or slander or anything, but I feel like it misses some magic by not being able to select a starter. I think the most impactful moment for me as a child with RB and GS was picking which monster I was going to start with and while having Pikachu follow you was admittedly freaking awesome, especially at the heyday of all of the Pokémon craze, it felt like it misses that initial decision that is so exciting at the start of any playthrough. Even starting Leaf Green again last week and picking my starter had an air of "what do I choose" to it that is just not an option in Yellow. I think picking a starter is kind of the most important part of any Pokémon game really, as that changes the team so much. With Yellow, I feel like I always end up with the same team. This isn't a unique thought as most people have this feeling, but it feels like even with the cool additions, repeat playthroughs just feel a bit hollow and lose that magic. To be fair, I borrowed Red from my cousin a lot and couldn't save as it was his cart so I had to restart a lot, but it always felt so exciting because what do I do this time? With Yellow, it's always just get Pikachu, get a Mankey or Nidoran, get the starters, and maybe a legendary or psychic or something or a ground type to round out the team. Is there something in Yellow that I'm just missing? Don't get me wrong, if I can start any game with any of my 151 monsters, I would play Yellow over RB, but if I can't select any, it just feels like I'm being restricted from really having my own personal experience.
So why would you choose Yellow over RB?
