Advise !!! New to astrophotogrpahy

I am totally fascinated by the Milky Way , and want to capture it a time lapse of 1min and killer pictures. I have Nikon d5200 with kit lens 18-55 mm . Is it equipped enough to get me results. I am not looking for a pro picture but a decent one for my memory and a killer timelapse of earth rotating with Milky Way in background . Any specific setting I need to keep in mind.
