6 month old is killing my nipples

My son has been teething really badly (no teeth have popped through but all the signs are there) and he is gnawing on my nipples when he nurses. Every once in a while I will give him a bottle and watching him gnaw and go to town on the bottle nipple makes me cringe knowing that’s what he is doing to me. I am in so much pain I don’t know how much longer I can take this. He was starting to refuse my left side and any time I put him on he would rip himself off so aggressively that I think my nipple is actually bruised. I’ve decided to take a break nursing on that side and just pump while I nurse him on the right. I’m hoping that once it has healed for a few days we can try that side again because I would hate for him to only nurse on one side for the next 6+ months 🥲. I’ve tried nipple butter but it’s not helping. Is there anything else I can do to help with the pain?
