Low neutraphils in baby
Hello. Just wondering if anyone’s had a similar experience with their child . When my baby was around 2 months old I got him a blood test as I wanted to make sure his jaundice had all cleared as he was jaundiced at birth( treated). The jaundice came back all good but it showed he had a neutrophil count of 0.8. I got him another blood test a few weeks later and it was still 0.8. He then had another one 1 month later and it was 1. I got referred to a hematologist and we tested it a month later and it was 1 again, then 0.9 a month later, then 0.7 a few month after that. He’s due to get another test in feb this year. I have a midwife friend whose son had the same thing and it resolved as he got older. The hematologist thinks it’s likely benign low neutraphils of infancy. He was born with a normal neutraphil level ( on the lower side but within normal range). All other blood test have been done and they are all normal ( besides more complex gene panel). He’s only been tested for the two major genes that would cause something congenital . He’s never been sick ( although I’m very strict about him not being around sick people) and he doesn’t go to daycare. When he has scratches they heal well. He’s 10 months now and his most recent neutraphil count was 0.5. He’s still never been sick. They are saying they will likely need to do a bone marrow biopsy if we get another low reading. Is this standard ? I’m obviously worried sick.
