Alright, this one might be a bit controversial, Excadrill is one of the more hated megas, and honestly I see why. So...let's just address the elephant in the room first

Yeah....this design is...lackluster to say the least, another one of the "body part but bigger" megas, the orange drills give it a good flair and God it looks so much better in 2D than in 3D (like basically every pokemon) but yeah....they made the drills bigger and called it a day.

However, what it lacks in aesthetics it makes up for with raw power. A WHOPPING base 160 attack stat, with a fairly usable base 103 speed. But man, that attack stat is a game changer, it's earthquakes and iron heads fucking STING, if you want something to combat the rampant xerneas spam, mega Excadrill might be the one for you. Excadrill is a real substance over style mega, it ain't pretty, but it'll beat you up so hard you'll look uglier by comparison.

But still, even with the fact that it hits like a god damn bullet train, can't be the only thing carrying it to 12th place overall, like, literally borderline top ten. No, there's another reason why Excadrill made it this far.....I really like Excadrill. Excadrill is my second favorite pokemon of all time, only behind...well you can probably guess. I had high hopes for mega Excadrill, and while the design is definitely a downgrade, the power makes up for it. But even still...I like mega Excadrill a lot less than regular Excadrill. Most of the time, when my favorite pokemon get megas, I see the megas as a part of the pokemon...this is my only exception. But because it's Excadrill, I really can't bring myself to hate it. But I can't in good conscience put it in the top ten, so this is kind of my way of compromising my love of Excadrill with the reality of it not being a top ten mega.

So yeah, it's one of my favorite pokemon, it hits like a truck, and doesn't look great. I understand why people don't like mega Excadrill and it definitely wouldn't be this high without my personal attachment to it. But yeah, I like Excadrill and this mega isn't bad enough to make me hate it. So top 12 it goes. Which means, after tomorrow we're into the top ten!

Reviewing every mega evolution from worst to best day 63, Excadrill.
