Do You Let Students Break School Rules?
10th grade US History teacher here and I was wondering if anyone else lets their students break some of the school policy? For example I don’t care what they wear to class. Policy says no hoodies, no sweatpants, no athletic shorts and no crocs. I think these rules are useless to students learning experience and where many teachers would write someone up for dress code, I wouldn’t (unless it’s something that’s actually ridiculous like a super short skirt or a tank top/wife beater).
Also our school phone policy is that they cannot have them anywhere on campus. It has to stay in a backpack all day or in a pocket where it can’t be seen. In my classroom I couldn’t care less if you have your phone out. as long as you’re getting good grades and not disrupting class with loud audio or something like that, it’s fine with me.
