Discrimination Settlement Progress
Location: Colorado
Hi there-
I’m in the process of settling out of the worst company I’ve ever worked for. Prepared to move on to the EEOC if they don't want to settle. I’ve got lawfully recorded gender discrimination, sexual harassment, workplace hostility, retaliation after reporting, and unpaid wages-not to mention the emotional toll- TONS of notes, documentation, witnesses and corroboration. I saw the toxicity quick and luckily began to protect myself out the gate, hoping it wouldn't come to this and I could just do the work I love at a shitty company that pays well. Still working at this company currently- now isolated and micromanaged via email and newly implemented virtual monitoring.
I hired a lawyer a couple months ago to help me out of this mess. He’s been SO helpful navigating this. I’m the 3rd woman in 2yrs to take legal action, first two were fired first for similar reasons - it's a pattern in this company perpetuated by the 2 CEOs.
Anyway, lawyer sent my demand letter about a month ago, my boss took 2 weeks to fabricate a 20pg response. I’ve been documenting and lawfully recording for nearly a year and have plenty of proof.. in his response 90% was blatant bold-face lies, exaggerations and fabrications... undeniable, with proof. He tried to change the narrative and it was WAY off. Just crazy, even my lawyer was like, "wtf is this".
Anyway- I got the news today my company hired a lawyer from a large corporate firm and the lawyer they hired is from out of state.. no idea why. So my lawyer is changing his approach a bit. I trust him.
The point of all this is just for insight, as im in the dark and working in hell daily. I'm trying to gauge why they hired a lawyer.
How did my lawyers approach change?
Is it common for companies of 50-ish employees to go this route?
I'm hoping it's because my company knows they're in the wrong and got scared vs. more unwilling to negotiate a normal severance.
ANY insight would help, happy to give more clarity on the situation as well.
