Eyes wide shut and the escalation of human lust
Obviously this movie has been more in discussion for reasons surrounding what's been coming out. It was scary enough watching it knowing that's probably what happens if it's not a straight horror movie. But I really thought the movie was about just lust in general and how people can misuse it. The movie makes it clear that it's a part of every person in the beginning and we get an escalation of human lust being used nefariously.
It starts out simple, two married people flirting with others. Then we go into the married woman fantasizing about someone else during sex. Then we get into the first level of actual cheating when that fiancé kissed Tom Cruise. And then it goes into adultry prostitution with Domino (even though he doesn't go through with it). And then the film escalates into the most depraved forms of human lust. We see pedophilia with those two men and the daughter of the shopkeeper, and of course, a full blown ritual with the elites. Bill basically goes on a journey like the ghosts of Christmas past and present except it's about sex. And in the end he and his wife decide to direct their lustfulness at each other like they should have been doing all along. They have something that all those other perversions of human intimacy don't, a real connection to each other and love (maybe idk if they did really love each other but I think they did)
