The Biggest Tech News This Week (6 March)
Apple’s 599 club
Apple concluded three days of releases with a brand new budget MacBook. The MacBook Neo runs on an A18 Pro chip, it features a 13-inch display, comes in a choice of four colours and is impressively priced just £599 – or £499 for students. Other releases included a new budget iPhone, the 17e and an iPad Air with an M4 – both also priced at £599.
Nothing
Nothing’s big release this week was the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro with a Glyph Matrix Display on the rear and an upgraded camera system that includes a 140x digital zoom. It also showed off the Phone (4a) and a more affordable vHeadphone (a) model.
Robots with Honor
Honor dominated the proceedings at the Mobile World Congress this week with its robots – one life-sized, and another built into a phone. The Robot Phone is going on sale later this year and features a camera on a miniature gimbal that can dance and interact with you like a mini Wall-E.
Lenovo concept spree
Lenovo once again impressed with a number of concept products at the show, including some rather wacky AI assistants, but the real standout was the Legion Go Fold Concept that turns a folding tablet into a handheld gaming device.
Xiaomi Hyper Car
Xiaomi’s pre-MWC reveal included its new flagship phones, the Xiaomi 17 and 17 Ultra, plus a Leica variant of the 17 Ultra with a manual camera dial. It also launched a new range of electric scooters featuring a flagship Scooter 6 Ultra with serious off-road chops. The really exciting part though, was its Vision GT hyper car, designed exclusively to feature in the Gran Turismo 7 game. However, it also shows what Xiaomi could do with a road car in the future.
Xbox incoming
And finally, Xbox has reveal the code name for its upcoming new console. Project Helix will be designed to play both Xbox and PC games, which could give it a serious advantage over the competition. More is expected next week at the GDC Festival of Gaming in San Francisco.
