Are wizards and witches still humans or technically another species?

I mean, we never really see them call each other men or women, sometimes boys and girls but not really. They usually just call themselves witches and wizards, and not to mention that they are different from most other humans. Do you think that they're some sort of other creature that is incredibly similar to a human or a genetically modified human or what?
