J'ai recréé un jeu de stratégie africain traditionnel avec React Native pour apprendre le développement mobile.

News

Hi everyone,

I’m a full-stack developer and recently wanted to learn React Native properly. Instead of following tutorials, I decided to build a real game.

I chose Agraa, a traditional strategy game played in Chad (Central Africa), where people literally draw the board in the sand and use stones as pieces.

What fascinated me is how simple it looks, yet how deep it becomes strategically.

The game has two phases:

• Placement phase – each player places 12 pieces on the board, but you must avoid forming 3 in a row.

• Movement phase – once all pieces are placed, players move them to form lines of 3 and capture opponent pieces.

The first player who cannot move loses.

For the AI:

– Medium difficulty uses Minimax with alpha-beta pruning

– Hard difficulty uses Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS), simulating thousands of games

This project helped me learn:

• Mobile performance optimization

• Game state management

• AI algorithms in real use
