1985–2000 comedy/satire — two young men, small town scene where restaurant is “closed for lunch”

Unsolved

Hi — trying to identify a movie I vaguely remember. Details I recall:

  • Release window: roughly 1985–2000.
  • Genre: comedy / satire, live-action, original language English.
  • Main characters: two young men (I estimate under 30).
  • Setting: not a big city — small town / suburban / “out of town” vibe. I think the protagonists are away from their hometown.
  • The scene I remember (minor scene, not main plot): during the daytime the two guys go to a restaurant / café to have lunch, but the restaurant closes for lunch (they’re surprised / confused). It’s a short, comedic beat — I remember the gag being that the restaurant literally closes during lunchtime.
  • The scene felt incidental — not the movie’s main location; tone was light / satirical.
  • The movie might be sci fi or fantasy related, like the protagonists are thrown into this situation unintantionally

Other helpful hints: I’m pretty sure it’s an American film (but might be indie), and it’s definitely not a movie that takes place mostly at night.

Maybe some details I believe to remember are wrong. I saw a small part of that film around 30 years ago as a young teenager, so my memory might be off....

Any ideas? Even partial matches or links to short clips are appreciated — thanks!
