Does showing each players score change how people play?

I've caught myself doing this, where I'll rush to do certain things or play a certain way just to keep my score at the top of the lobby.

But the more I think about it why is it even shown? For example, you see someone going about a juicy factory lineup with no AA or sams nearby, another player sees it and they both race to get there first, but why? Let's say there's a easy plane kill to be had, one player is close but you want the points so you launch a scythe hoping to snipe the kill before them.

If we take the scoring out that play style becomes pointless, instead it's solely focused on winning the mission instead of just doing things that reward the most points.

Now I know not everyone plays this way, but I'm certain a large portion of the community does, wether they realize it or not. I personally think it kind of goes against the spirit of the game to an extent.
