The simple system I use when I’m stuck on a big decision

I used to overthink every important decision. Relationships, big life choices, future plans… my brain would just go in circles. Too many “what ifs”, too many possible outcomes. At some point I realized the problem wasn’t the decision itself. It was the mental noise around it. So I started using a very simple system that helped me clear things up. Nothing complicated. Just a few steps I write down.

  1. Write the real options

Most decisions feel huge because we imagine 10 different possibilities. In reality, it’s usually just 2 or 3 real paths. Seeing them on paper already helps. 2. Write the fear behind each option

A lot of hesitation comes from fear we don’t even say out loud. Fear of regret. Fear of making the wrong choice. Fear of what other people will think. Once you write the fear down, it becomes much easier to think clearly. 3. Think about the long term

I usually ask myself one simple question: Which choice would my future self respect more? That question alone removes a lot of confusion. It’s a simple system, but it helped me make clearer decisions without getting stuck in endless overthinking.

If you’re someone who struggles with big life choices, this kind of structure can really help.
