Irrational fear of basements?
My family is currently looking to move within our town (north GA with plenty of granite and radon) to a house with a little more space.
Houses in the area are typically basement; crawl space; or slab foundations.
My current house has a crawl space that I DIY encapsulated with a sump pump and radon fan and my average radon levels in the house are 0.3pci.
Am I silly to be afraid of basement homes? For radon and also for moisture issues?
I have this fear of diy (or non DIY) radon mitigation being an exercise in frustration because the basement wasn’t poured on a proper gravel bed (for sub slab suction) and never being able to get the radon levels low enough to where I feel comfortable with my daughters hanging out in the basement. Part of our reason for moving is for my teenage daughters to have more space.
Should I be more open to basement homes? Thanks!
