AIO for telling my mother "i know everyone says its hard for you but, its unfair for me too"?
Hi, this is gonna be a bit long but here it goes. So for context, here's a bit of information about my parents first. Ill be direct here, my dad is a pain. He's verbally abusive and has threatened to raise his hand at me on multiple occasions, has thrown things at me (eg. A mug of steaming hot coffee, a table, etc) and used to hit my mum before I and my twin brother were born. Although, he's stopped the physical part, He likes throwing a fit every other day for something or the other, he lies and makes up excuses to throw fits and yell. It could be literally as simple as taking the stairs instead of the lift with him and he'd take it to "you're mistreating me, ignoring me, treating me horribly" and he picks fights with my mother all the time over things that really would infuriate any woman. And I've seen all of this happen with my own eyes. This is basically the gist of how he is.
And now, My mother, the only one in our family of four (i have a twin brother incase i haven't mentioned) that I love and am attached to. She has a lot going on. Apart from having to deal with my father, she has an inheritance issue going on, a house to sell. Which, other members of the family and my dad, keep screwing with. So she has to balance the two and also be responsible for her mum, and like, since her father (my grandfather) passed away, she's always been responsible for my grandma and my uncle, her brother (he's in a bit of a pinch himself) and my other aunts. For the past 3 years she's been travelling to and fro to different cities regarding the inheritance thing.
Now, about me. Inprobably am not the best daughter, a lazy disappointment, as my parents like say, which ill accept but id like to think im not too bad. Or maybe just a bit above average.. I've always been the good kid. Sure, I got into trouble once or twice but that was all. For as long as I can remember, I always did my best to stay out of trouble, get good grades, take up responsibility for whenever my brother got into trouble at school (it was a lot), and basically just tried to not be a burden on my parents. I never asked for anything grand or demanding, considering our family isn't well off by any means. We were comfortable maybe when me and my brother were younger but, now that we're both in college, things have gotten really hard. I actually sacrificed lots of things so they can spend the money on my brother. They got him into a super fancy high school which had a ridiculously high fee. The money? Savings that were meant for me. And I gave up on going to my dream college for my bachelor's degree because they wanted for us to pick the same college so it'd be easier my father to pay for stuff. (A college that my father preferred for my brother) And for years, they always labelled me "lazy" because, I could never really wake up on time in the morning and was usually always pretty tired. It really got worse in high school and they've nagging about it since then, despite me telling them that its not something im doing on purpose, and that I genuinely can't do it. And now that im in college, after years of telling them that I know that something's wrong with me, that's causing this "laziness" I finally went ahead and got a blood work up. Honestly, I should've done it earlier but my mum's a bit of a naturalist so she always just said "theres no need for a blood work up for someone your age". And what do we find out? That I'm iron deficient. And I thought "finally, they'll believe me" but no. They instead, turned it on me, that me sleeping late, waking up late, has somehow lead to it, which, if you think that makes sense, please Google it, is the other way around.
Usually when my mom leaves, the house is left for me to handle which means I have to deal with making sure my brother and my dad have something to eat (i cook), and that the house is neat and tidy, and that the chores are done, While i balance my college classes, extra course work classes and my own shit. Like I dont know what's wrong with me yall, but everything feels like a chore.. like eating, showering, dressing up, going out, everything. But I do my best to keep doing things. I get good grades, I win stuff in events and competitions, I manage event clubs, all while managing the rest. So im not entirely perfect at doing the household stuff. Ill agree.
So today morning, my mum, whos just returned home, starts with how I'm indisciplined because I wake up late, and don't shower before I go to college (i take them once I get back) or skip meals and this has somehow made her a "useless mother" all because I don't wake up early. And also that i don't help around and that the help i do is "negligible". (I used to work a part time by the way, which I've recently quit). She calls up a friend and tells them the whole thing and they start lecturing me about how everything is hard for my mother and that I have to try and understand her, (Which I do.) And be less of a burden and take care of myself. And after that call, I tell her again that it really isn't my choice to sleep in or go to sleep late. I physically can NOT fall asleep for a long long time, no matter what time I go to bed and it really is hard for me to wake up no matter how hard I try. But she just called me indisciplined and went on about how "a girl mustn't be this way" and then proceeded to start ignoring me when I tried to explain myself (she always does this btw) . And that's when ive had enough and I say "you know, everyone talks about how hard it is for you, and I get it, I really do. But don't you ever think about how hard it is, how unfair it is, for me too?"
I really appreciate it if you've actually read this far. I dont know why im even making this but I just.. I just want to be heard. I dont know if im right or wrong but I just needed to get this off my chest. Thanks guys, if you're reading.
