looking for advice

I’m a bio major who did not plan to go the pre-med route. My original goal was to get a lab job. After talking with a family doctor, I realized I want to do more than lab work and help patients to become a family doctor one day myself.

I’m on a gap year right now and will go into my third year this August. During this time, I contacted a hospital and got a clinical volunteering role in the emergency department. I also plan to start non clinical volunteering while I’m here.

Right now I have a 3.64 GPA, but I have zero research, clinical hours, non-clinical volunteering, and leadership so far. When I return to school, I plan to reach out to professors and join a research lab, join pre-med related clubs, and be more active on campus.

Do you think it is too late for me to go this route? Does this plan make sense for the next year?
