US Midwest/South in April

I got the idea in my head to take a road trip in April and am wondering how worried I should be about tornadoes? I was thinking about driving throughout Missouri, Northern Arkansas, and Western Tennessee in mid April but came across some articles saying that's prime tornado season for the area. I know no one can predict that far out but does anyone have experience driving through that area in the spring? How was it weather wise? Should I go at a different time of year or is April fine?
