Laptop for school + gaming

I’m a junior in high school currently, I want to get a laptop during June - July or simply ask for one for my birthday. I’ve heard good things about ASUS laptops, but I’m unsure which laptop I should go for. Anybody have any recs for a laptop that will last for about 5+ years, and is good for school and gaming? Also, can I get advice for maintaining the laptop so it runs good long term? I’ve heard good things switching to Linux, many saying it runs faster compared to others, but I don’t know. Honestly any advice is appreciated :D
