I baked an artisanal bread- my first ever attempt at baking bread. Don't own a dutch oven, so baked it in my trusted cake tin. I also didn't have bread flour. I used all purpose flour instead. With so many substitutions, I was worried that the bread would turn out dry. I was pleasantly surprised when I cut it open, it had a really nice soft chewy texture and a crunchy crust. My family absolutely loved it and devoured it for iftar. So happy I tried baking bread this Ramadan!

If you're thinking of baking bread and don't have all the ingredients or equipment, you should still give it a try.

Recipe

Ingredients:
3 and 3/4 cup all purpose flour
1 and 3/4 tsp salt
2 and 1/4 tsp dry yeast
1 and 1/2 cup of lukewarm water

Method:
1. Mix all the dry ingredients in a large bowl. Add water and mix with a wooden spoon, until no lumps remain.
2. Cover the dough and let it rest in the fridge overnight.
3. Take out the dough from the fridge and let it rest until room temperature.
4. Lightly flour your hands, pull the dough from the bottom of the bowl and put it in the center of the bowl. Turn the bowl 90 degrees and repeat the pulling, stretching and folding the dough, until the dough gets nice and firm.
5. Take out the dough from the bowl onto a lightly floured surface, and shape it into a round loaf.
6. Transfer the dough onto a parchment paper and let it rest covered with a wet cloth for 2 hours.
7. Use a knife to cut a slit (not very deep) running across the top of the dough.
8. Preheat the oven at 220 C. Bake for 40 minutes. Slice the bread once it is completely cool and enjoy.

My first bread came out better than I expected!
