AITAH GF mad I bought front row tickets
Me (34m)and the GF (37f) are going on vacation. She’s gonna be at a conference all week and it turns out there’s this comedian who is also gonna be in town. I asked her if she wanted to go, double checked, and she said “YES!” And so as I was paying I thought “you know what, I want this to be special for her,” and so I splurged and got front row seats so we could be a part of the show.
As soon as I told her, her first reaction was “oh no… why did you do that?! I’m worried they will ask me political questions!” And honestly, it caught me off guard that she would have that reaction. Now I’m having a really awful feeling where now this nice gesture has turned into me having to apologize to her for upgrading the experience, finding this whole thing and doing something nice for her, all literally because she was worth a great night. And now she’s mad at me for doing this. This guy is one of her favorite comedians, and I checked with her to make sure she would want to go (twice) and then it’s like I didn’t do it the right way. And it feels like shit that doing this nice gesture (and spending extra money) translates into “you are wrong for thinking of me cause you didnt think of me in the right proportion.”
Now I’m honestly wondering if this relationship is even worth it because for that to be your blanket reaction, the FIRST impression. Like that feedback just doesn’t sit well with me.
AITAH for feeling this way?
TLDR: Asked gf if she wanted to see a comedy show on vacation cause she liked the comic. She said yes, so I decided to buy her front row seats to make the experience special for her.
She immediately said she wasn’t happy and didn’t want to be in the front row and is now uncomfortable with the show.
