The Bengal Campaign – The Hunt for the Elites
After fleeing the imperial reforms, the remaining aristocratic elites regrouped in Northern Bangladesh and proclaimed a so-called “Bengal Sultanate.” Ignoring the will of the population, they relied on mercenaries and private wealth in an attempt to restore the old order of elite privilege. For Sultan Zâhirüddîn Mahmud, this was an open challenge to the authority of the Al-Hind Empire and to the doctrine he had declared: “An Emperor for the People.” Mahmud responded immediately. Veteran formations from the Deccan campaigns, reinforced by newly mobilized imperial troops, marched east under the direct command of the Sultan. The campaign was declared an Imperial Hunt for the Elites a military operation aimed at destroying the rebel leadership, dismantling their mercenary armies, and crushing the illegitimate Bengal regime before it could consolidate power.
Imperial forces advanced rapidly across the region, targeting rebel strongholds, supply bases, and aristocratic estates that served as command centers for the uprising. Mercenary forces hired by the elites faced disciplined imperial armies hardened by years of war.
The Al-Hind Empire would not allow the return of a corrupt elite order. Those who attempted to overthrow the imperial state and rule over the people again would be hunted down and destroyed.
