Courthouse wedding, then wedding later?

Everything Else

My fiancé and I have been engaged for almost 2 years. If it was up to us, we would’ve already had the wedding and been married. Unfortunately we haven’t had the money to have a wedding of any kind. Recently, some legal things came up and we’re considering getting married at the court house because of it, but can’t agree on what that day

should actually look like. My fiancé wants it to be just him and I (and maybe our kids) not make it a big deal, not really dress up,just sign the paperwork, do the required ceremony and that’s it. He mentioned maybe going away for the weekend just him and I as a mini honeymoon. I would really want our immediate family to be there (even if the can’t all be in the room) and for him to wear a tux, me wear some type of nice white dress, dress our kids up, then take pictures outside with our family (and ourselves of course) (my future SIL is a photographer) and then maybe we go to dinner with our family and still go away for the weekend. We both agreed we could still do a “wedding” later, but we don’t agree about what the day of actual marriage should look like. I want it to still feel special and intimate , and to me it seems like he doesn’t because he wants the real wedding to feel special and right now we just need to do this for the legal reasons, which is upsetting me. I know he loves me and that’s not why he wants to marry me, and he’s even mentioned just going to the courthouse before these legal things came up, but we’re just not on the same page, and I feel like maybe I’m not getting my point across in a way that makes sense. I still want to feel somewhat like a bride.. does anyone get where I’m coming from? Any thoughts?
