I feel like I got lied to
First of all loved the game, it's got that RE standard of quality and some of highest highs of the series. The first half is unreal, Victor is an amazing if slightly underutilised villain, Modified T Virus Zombies are some of the most disturbing and entertaining enemies in the series, etc
But man I can't help but feel like the Leon/Grace synergy and zapping dynamic that a whole chunk of the marketing revolved around kind of actually doesn't exist. Basically the first half of the game is Grace's half, with 4 very short Leon sections to break the tension, which works really well.
And then, well... It's just Leon basically for most of the second half and right up until the end section. And while I liked Leon's gameplay, I just felt it went on for too long and needed to get leveled with some horror/Grace sections. Sure there's the orphanage part but it's a heavily scripted part that doesn't pick up on the Grace gameplay. Then finally, after the (IMO) very mid plants section and (IMO) very cool but too succint elite guards part, Grace gets a final section.
But even that final Grace section feels like a nothing burger that doesn't pick upon her previous gameplay that much coz while the idea of having to sneak around Lickers is a good idea to slip back into a final bit of survival horror gameplay, well it ends up not being that at all because the game throws enough resources at you so that you can literally find or craft enough acid bottles to just one shot any Licker you come across, killing any horror or tension. And then that's literally it for Grace.
I don't know like I feel there's something missing. When I saw the gameplay trailers and stuff I really felt they were hinting at a zapping system of sorts, but that only really happens once at the care center but even then, and especially for those with experience with RE games, there's a high likelihood that there won't be many enemies for Leon to kill. And even if there are there's no real incentive to kill everyone unless they're in the way of the director's office or some of the few cupboards only Leon can open.
Idk it just feels like missed potential to me, like there's something missing to make the experience and action/horror dynamic feel truly special.
