Is Primordial Tyrants beginner friendly?

Hi, I'm completely new here. Played a bit of The Isle many years ago, and now want to give PoT a chance since I read it's more chill overall. I also read there are mods, Primordial Tyrants being one of them, and that the Giganotosaurus (my favorite dinosaur) is only available there. Is it a good idea to start on a PT server right away, or should I start with the official modes first?

Also, unreleated to the original question, but is AI spawn more generous in PoT than it is in The Isle? I remember many hours of not finding any food, which was pretty annoying.
