How men love vs how women love

I was reading an MM romance to my gay male friend and he said, this is hot but it’s not realistic. Men just aren’t going to pine like this, they don’t have such complex feelings about sex, and the writer is clearly not experienced in the emotional life of men in general. Author is cis female.

I countered — but men have emotions

He said — sure we do but we experience them differently than women due to how we were socially conditioned and perhaps even due to genetics / biology , patriarchy is at play too

I could ask all men this and not just gay men but I’m curious anyway, do men not pine and feel desperate and feel longing in the same way women do???

I’m a bit nervous to ask but I don’t want to offend my friend further by questioning him. ☺️ 🙈
