Of all the bad Wells Fargo issues, this has to be the worst

Concern

A couple of years ago we disputed a charge for $100+ for a subscription that was cancelled w/i the 7 day trial period. WF cancelled the card and reissued a new one. A year later we saw another charge for the same amount from the same vendor. There is no way they had that card number so I called customer service. I was told that on recurring charges Wells Fargo will run it through as a courtesy because customers often forget to update their merchants! Nope, I asked to speak to a supervisor. The supervisor reiterated the exact same story, “it is a service we offer our customers”. Talk about putting spin on a story! I demanded to be escalated to a higher supervisor. When I finally received a call back, she gave the absolute same story. “Wells Fargo offers this as a service to our customers“. I stated, WF closed the account because of fraud from that merchant, you have that on record. I was informed that they do not look back on the previous card number. So I asked what made Wells Fargo think this was recurring since it happened on the old card which WF closed. Drumroll, please. She said “Well, how else would they have your card number!”. Are you kidding me!

Keep in mind that we were one of the Wells Fargo clients that had a credit card opened in our name several years ago during that WF scandal. Still, my husband is a creature of habit and didn’t want to change. It has just happened again with a different merchant, first on an account that was then closed and then again on the new one.

Today is the final straw, and my husband is finally convinced to move our accounts to PNC. For a bank to run through fraudulent charges as a “service to our customers” and double-down on it, you can’t hate them enough.
