Do I Need to Activate my Season Pass at my Home Park if it is a Renewal?

I had a season pass last year, home park King's Dominion, and I bought one for this coming season over the summer. I'd like to go to Carowinds before KD this season, because I have a flight out of Charlotte at the end of the month. Am I still required to activate the renewal at KD before I can go to Carowinds?
