91 year old broken hip- what are peoples experiences?

Serious Replies Only

Hi. My 91 year old Nana fell on the dance floor (yes I know) and broke her hip. I think it was a fractured femur? She got a pin in her leg and had an epidural type thing so didn’t need to go under general anaesthetic. She spent one week in hospital then was moved to another hospital specific for broken bones in the elderly I believe. Her pain has not improved and everytime she needs to stand she is in significant pain. She is on oxycodone and paracetamol.

She has now been sent home not even 4 weeks post surgery. She cannot walk alone even with a zimmer frame as she is too unsteady after being bed bound for a month

.I should state that prior to her fall she was healthy, on no medication and got out and about everyday. Has anyone’s family member went through this and fully recovered at this age? We’ve all been through such a hard time this past year after my mum passed (her daughter) and I would hate for a fall at a family party to be the cause of her death.

Also carers are coming in 4 times a day but she can’t be left alone so where does that leave us? What happens overnight?

Thanks
