What to expect as a solo?

I usually have friends to play extraction shooters with but they didn't seem to interested in marathon. How is public matchmaking treating everyone? Solos? I'm curious cause I like the game but if my friends don't play and the public matchmaking experience sucks then I probably won't stick with it. I had no one talking in my few server slam games.
