Reaching out to someone who rejected you early dating

I was seeing this person for a few months and things I felt were going great. he really was making an effort, but broke things off saying he wasn’t feeling it :(. would you reach out down the road? or is that just desperate. Have any of you tried this before and it’s worked out positively?
