How can I open a hardware store (ferretería) on land I own in an industrial zone?

Información🗣

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice from people who have experience opening or running a hardware store (ferretería). I recently purchased a piece of land that is located in an industrial zone within my city in the state of Guanajuato. My goal is to eventually build and operate a hardware store there that would serve contractors, construction workers, and the local community. Right now I’m in the early planning stages and trying to understand wha-t steps I should be taking next. For example: What permits or licenses are typically required to open a hardware store? How do people usually find suppliers or distributors for hardware inventory? Is it better to start small and expand, or launch with a full inventory? Any advice on layout, storage, or things you wish you knew before opening?

Since I already own the land, I’m trying to figure out the smartest path forward before investing in construction or inventory.

If anyone here owns a hardware store, works in the industry, or has opened a similar business, I’d really appreciate any guidance or lessons learned.

Thanks in advance!
