Chico Couple Faking Deaths

Story time!

A few months ago, my job hired a new employee. He was quiet but seemed qualified. He showed up for work for about two days before calling out for a “family emergency.” Throughout this time, he provided us with extensive details about the “emergency”, saying his wife had passed out and hit her head, and is now in a diabetic coma caused by gestational diabetes she has had since her youngest was born 6years ago. Throughout the next two weeks, our new employee kept providing us gruesome details while asking all about different types of leave he could get (mind you he only has come to works twice, ever, at this point).

Then, he calls and said his wife died. We were shocked. He had an elaborate story about how he didn’t know what he and his 4 kids were going to do (one of which had special needs). We decided to all pull together and send him flowers and grocery gift cards, since he did not yet qualify for any leave. One of our managers even had his entire church pray for their family. He asked about bereavement leave a lot, until eventually he just told us he wouldn’t be returning.

Fast forward a few WEEKS, when his wife’s Facebook page appeared in my “people you may know”. Of course my curiosity took over and I clicked it. THIS LADY IS VERY ALIVE.

Very alive, posting frequently, seemingly like nothing is wrong! This couple was trying to pull a scam over on us, and epically failed. What terrible human beings would lie about death like this to try to get a little cash, especially in a town so small??

Now I see she’s starting a new job (thanks Facebook!) and it is as a Medtech for a care home. I wouldn’t trust my loved ones in the care of somebody so awful…

Plus she will probably just work there for 90days and tell them her husband died so she can scam them too. Let alone trusting her with controlled substances… she will likely steal/sell.

I truly wish there is something that can be done about this. Any advice?
