F1 renewal / travel if visa is expiring in less than 6 months okay?

Hello all, I’m looking for any advice regarding travelling on an “almost” expired F1 visa. I started out as a Bachelors student, did 1 year OPT, and am currently in a Masters program now. My visa expires in October, but I wanted to go back home for the summer to visit my parents in India. Is it safe for me to travel? Is it safe for me to try to renew my visa too?

I’m so confused, i tried to contact an attorney and they told me that they can’t guarantee anything. I’m hearing really bad stories of people renewing their visa and getting their original visa cancelled too. Any help would be appreciated 🙏🏻
