Why Gas Stations Are Just the Tip of the Fuel Money Pyramid
I was digging into gas station economics the other day and realized most people totally misunderstand where the money actually comes from. Everyone thinks gas stations are raking it in on fuel - but it’s actually just a fraction of their profits. Fuel usually accounts for only about 20-40% of the take, while convenience store items make up the other 60-80%. Gas is basically there to get people in the door.
Cheaper gas draws more drivers, and more drivers mean more store purchases. Simple, right? Now imagine scaling that idea up to the entire fuel supply chain. Behind every station and fleet, there’s a network of companies handling fuel logistics, delivery, infrastructure, storage, and distribution. And when demand spikes or prices get crazy, those systems suddenly become critical.
Fleet fuel contracts are a huge part of this. Think about all the vehicles that need constant fuel: delivery trucks, construction equipment, big rigs, rideshare cars, service fleets - you name it. A single contract can easily represent thousands of gallons a day.
That’s why I started looking at companies operating in this infrastructure layer. One example is NextNRG ($NXXT). They focus on mobile fuel delivery and energy infrastructure services for fleets and commercial clients.
It’s still early stage and definitely speculative, but the logistics side of energy markets is surprisingly interesting - and hardly anyone talks about it.
Anyone else here keeping an eye on fuel logistics or energy infrastructure plays? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
