IT admins (K12/SMB/Enterprise): CA/CO/NY OS-level bills + UT/TX/LA app-store laws — what are you planning for?
Not debating politics here — this is about implementation risk.
I am not a lawyer, and none of this is legal advice. Work with your legal team on organization-specific interpretation.
Quick landscape:
- CA AB1043 is enacted (OS-level, 1/1/2027).
- CO SB26-051 is in progress.
- NY S8102/S8102A + A8893 are proposed.
- UT SB142, TX SB2420, and LA HB570 are app-store-focused laws (different mechanism, still operationally relevant).
For admins, likely impact areas:
- setup/provisioning workflow changes
- managed app distribution changes (Apple VPP/Apps and Books, Managed Google Play, and possibly broader Windows ecosystem workflows)
- older OS version risk if required behavior lands only on newer releases
- state-by-state policy and support complexity
My read: direct duties are usually written for OS providers/app stores/developers, not typical endpoint admins — but admins still absorb downstream changes, and future revisions could broaden scope.
What are you planning for now vs waiting on vendor guidance for?
