I built a bulk export tool for Canva and just got approved for their Connect API

I kept running into the same problem - needing to export a bunch of designs from different folders and Canva's built-in download just wasn't doing it for me. Downloading one by one and renaming files manually was driving me crazy. No way to select specific pages from multi-page designs, just a lot of monotony.

So I built DesignExporter (designexporter.com). You connect your Canva account, browse your folders, select the designs you want, pick your format (PNG, JPG, PDF, whatever), and it packages everything into a ZIP and emails you the download link.

A few things it does that I couldn't find anywhere else:

  • Pick specific pages from multi-page designs (like grabbing 3 out of 10 pages from a single project)
  • Custom file naming with patterns like {title}_{folder}_{date} so you're not stuck renaming everything after
  • Text detection powered by AWS Textract OCR that reads each page and auto-names files based on unique text it finds. So if you have a bunch of social media templates with different headlines, it pulls the headline and uses it as the filename automatically.
  • Review filenames before download so you can tweak anything before it packages the ZIP

Just got approved through Canva's official Connect API review process so now anyone can sign up and use it. It's free to start with.

Curious if anyone else has run into this same workflow pain or if I'm the only one who found this annoying enough to build something for it.
