References to Aberdeen on TV? (e.g. French & Saunders, Blackadder)
Can anyone think of any references to Aberdeen in TV shows over the years?
This is a bit of a niche question, but my family always loved it when our city was mentioned, usually in a comedy as a way of referencing somewhere very far away that nobody would want to visit :)
For example:
- In the French and Saunders sketch that was the inspiration for Absolutely Fabulous: “Aber-bloody-deen? I don't know anybody in Aber-bloody-deen, darling!”.
- In Blackadder Goes Forth: “Ask them who they'd prefer to meet: Squadron Commander Flasheart and the man who cleans out the public toilets in Aberdeen, and they'd go for Wee Jock Poo Pong McPlop, every time.”
- The first episode of The Royle Family has a bit about an expensive phone call to Aberdeen.
- In Doctor Who ‘School Reunion’, Sarah Jane Smith says the Doctor didn’t drop her off in Croydon, but in Aberdeen: "That's next to Croydon, isn't it?"
- And Peep Show has a bunch of stuff about going to work in Aberdeen.
I posted this on r/OldBritishTelly and got some more:
- Blackadder's Christmas Carol
- Black Books - Blood
- Look Around You - Sport
- Monty Python - chemist sketch
Do you know any more?
