What's going on? Gene Hackerman? Simi and Abel broken up? Help!

I have been off Reddit for a few months and came back to Gene Hackerman and reports of Simi and Abel being broken up. What is the deal with Gene, and are they really broken up? Thanks to anyone who takes the time to respond. I am lost.
