Cybersecurity Research Proposal Help

Due to my work I have been being pushed more and more into a cyber security role, to the point my job title will reflect that soon as well.

However, I still consider myself amateurish to this area and a software engineer first.

For that reason I have decided to pursue a Masters in Cybersecurity, but this requires a research proposal.

Now, I was recommended to target areas that have flaws in cybersecurity or that can be better advanced. I was hoping those more experienced than me could assist in providing some areas that fit this. Some areas for me to look into and see if it interests me. Or areas that would be good to focus on to become a better cyber security engineer.
