Do I really need the VFC Guide hop system

Just got a BCM MK2 8.5 inch upper and seemingly need to remove the gas block so I can fit any type of MLOK attachment.

Will i run in to any issues if I don't have it installed, whether it be hop issues or handguard stability problems etc.
