Animus Vessels consumed during magic item creation?

I'm confused about what happens to animus vessels during magic item creation? Is the animus inside the vessel used up or is the vessel itself used up? Can you use an animus vessel to collect animus, craft an item with the animus inside the vessel, and then use the SAME animus vessel to collect more animus?
