Reputation system / rant about incident system
Hi all,
I know I’m likely not the first to suggest this, and the iRacing developers have probably thought about it already and discussed it. But I’m so tired of incident points where the victim gets the same penalty as the offender, and often the offender comes out ahead and gains by being dirty. There should be an additional system to rate drivers, or moderators should be able to adjust results and add or remove penalties if offenses are protested. I feel that often there are no real consequences for racing poorly. The lack of transparency in the protest process is extremely frustrating.
In short, there should be real consequences when drivers ruin other drivers’ races.
Why not add a post-race feature where participants can stay, review incidents, and rate them affecting the penalties? Then the outcome of these ratings could be protested if abused instead of the incidents themselves, making the process far more transparent.
Added benefit would be that more drivers are incented to watch their incidents and perhaps learn from it.
I feel that 3/5 races are decided by incidents caused by poor and aggressive driving, not racing. Especially in the higher splits, where drivers are fast, but just impatient, which makes it even more frustrating. So many drivers do not show any regard to the other drivers and think that any brake zone or small gap is to be used to overtake even when it might ruin the other drivers race.
This is a sim and not a game, and if you race like that in real life there would be very serious consequences. Cost of damages to your car, disqualification from the race or even disqualification from the series.
I mostly drive the MX-5 cup and I am aware that this series is very affected by this as it is a rookie series and a short sprint race, but I am usually in the top splits and would expect more, but it seems that it gets worse the higher the Irating.
Especially this week on Summit point it is so clear. Drivers dive bomb on the straight into turn 1 from 5 cars lengths back, same into turn 5 or even going out onto the straight. Summit point is such a great track to drive fairly as the straight is such a good opportunity to do clean overtakes that does not loose you time, but the drivers do not care. They just want to get pass and do not care if they ruin others race.
Sorry for the rant :)
