Spend down question for Medicaid in Minnesota.

My mother who is 74 and disabled still manages to live alone. She had a mishap and had to spend some time in a care facility to rehabilitate. During this time, she wasn’t spending any money and managed to have her bank account go over the 3000 dollar limit. She re enrolled, she usually has me help her but didn’t say anything this time so I had no idea this was going on. Well, she called me this morning and say a month ago she got a call from the county worker saying she had until 3/5 to spend it down under the 3k., she never told me this either. 3/5 was yesterday, so I am unsure what happens now. Should I take her out today and go spend it or will they want it?
